There are businesses nationwide that are advertising mystery shopping, but how do you real y earn money?  There are several legitimate marketing firms, training companies, merchandisers and other agencies that recruit mystery shoppers legitimately.

There are also several scammers who do this as well.    The best way to spot a mystery shopper scam is if they charge you a fee to complete an application.  Legitimate companies will not may you pay to work, what’s the point in that?

It’s amazing that people are willing to do that in the first place.  Other signs are claims of a “guaranteed” position with no training, or “work-from-home.”  These are all enticing offers.    Most ads are scams and they will usual y hit you up for a fee to get you started.

These are similar to the envelope stuffing scams and similar scams that want you to pay to work or for the opportunity to work.  These fees may range from $29.95 to $49.95.  For this fee you are supplied with a list of places and companies that may hire these mystery shoppers.  The key here is that they “may” hire you.

There is no guarantee that they are going to hire you.    This works very similar to the whole medical transcriptions thing.  You go and learn how to do it and then they give you a list of people who might be interested in hiring you.  There is no guarantee that you will get a job and they will usually not even help you find one.

To top it off, you will probably have to pay for the list.  The job is real y not as glamorous as it sounds like.  Usual y you will have to go to a bunch of department stores.  Or, some scams will make you buy purchases off of websites.  They will promise to refund you what you spend, but they tend to always find a reason to not refund you.

You get to keep the products alright, because you had to pay for them! Also, with this list of stores that you have to visit, you have to use your own car to drive all over town.  You may even have to drive out of town to get to some of the stores.  Your gas is not going to be paid for so those are expenses out of your pocket.

You may end up spending more than the “job” is worth.  Real mystery shopper jobs are not full time jobs either.  They are often more like a spy mission so they have to rotate their people often.  The companies do not want their competitors to catch on so they can switch you out at any time.
